Home Repair for the Elderly is operated by the Fairfax County Department of Housing & Community Development. The program provides minor home repairs and accessibility modifications for low and moderate income elderly or disabled homeowners, such as painting, minor electrical repairs, windows, doors, plumbing, installation of ramps and grab bars. Some emergency work may be handled. The types of repairs that are eligible include: roof leaks, broken hot water heaters, furnace repairs for no heat, electrical shorts and rewiring, and plumbing leaks. More extensive improvements or those requiring building permits or licensing are not provided. Applicants must own their home and reside in the property, their monthly mortgage plus utilities must exceed 25% of monthly income, and they must have proof of disability and resources. Income limits apply.
