Utility Assistance

Utilities are primarily defined as the cost of electric, natural gas, oil, propane, wood, and water that are required for heating and cooling a home and providing running water for kitchen and bathroom facilities. Utility assistance consists of financial assistance to cover the cost of utility arrearages, utility deposits and connection fees, repairs of heating and cooling equipment, and unpaid utility bills.

Alexandria Department of Community & Human Services

Alexandria Department of Community & Human Services pays for fans, room air conditioners or back utility bills for families that meet the income requirements (130% of poverty) and include an individual who is permanently and totally disabled.

Fairfax County Dept. of Family Services Self-Sufficiency

Fairfax County Dept of Family Services Self-Sufficiency assists eligible households with their primary heating expenses.

Flexible Funds

A state funding source for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities moving to housing with a lease in their own name.

Francis House

Francis House can provide utility bill assistance in Prince William County for those facing a disconnection. Other services include prescription medications, referrals, and case management.

Koinonia Foundation

Koinonia Foundation offers financial assistance for utility bills or rent.  Also provides both perishable and non-perishable emergency food.

Lazarus Ministry

Lazarus Ministry offers limited financial assistance with utility bills, rent, prescriptions (not narcotics), and clothing. Christ Church also operates the Client Choice Food Pantry.

Lifeline

Lifeline is offered by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and provides a monthly discount on ONE telephone service (land line or wireless) for eligible low-income consumers.
