Find Housing Resources

Moving into integrated, independent housing involves more than finding an apartment or house that is the right size in a great location. Northern Virginians with developmental disabilities often need help to get into and stay in rental housing for a variety of reasons. Housing resources include programs and services that can:

  • Remove barriers to housing
o financial counselling to reduce debt or repair credit
o legal assistance to fight discrimination
  • Cover up front costs of housing
    o deposits and application fees
    o accessibility modifications
    o moving expenses
    o furniture and household supplies
  • Ease temporary housing crises
o emergency rent and utility payments
    o access to food
o legal assistance to prevent eviction
  • Make housing affordable
    o tenant based rental assistance
    o housing with deep subsidy
    o housing with shallow subsidy

There are two ways to search for housing resources. Use the Find Housing Resources Query tool to search by type of assistance, jurisdiction or region, program name, and/or program description. Alternately, click on a housing resource category in the Find Housing Resources Menu on the left side of the screen. Each category lists programs and services in alphabetical order with brief summaries. Click each program for a detailed program description, available locations, and contact information.
