Accessibility Modifications in Rental Units

Accessibility modifications are changes made to the structure of the unit, the building or the property to make it more functional and useable by a person with a disability. Below you will find programs that provide financial assistance to reduce the cost to make accessibility modifications as well as programs that obtain donated materials and use volunteers to make certain modifications.

Flexible Funds

A state funding source for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities moving to housing with a lease in their own name.

Livable Homes Tax Credit

A Virginia state tax credit for purchase or retrofitting of existing housing for visitability and accessibility.

Neighborhood Housing Rehabilitation Program

Makes assistance available to low and moderate income residents of Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park who own and occupy their homes to correct exterior and interior deficiencies.

Project Mend-a-House

Provides free home repair and home modification services to seniors, people with disabilities and low-income owners and renters in Prince William County, Manassas City and Manassas Park.

Rebuilding Together Alexandria

Rebuilding Together Alexandria volunteers offer their time and materials to repair the homes of homeowners who are physically or financially unable to perform these repairs

Rebuilding Together Arlington-Fairfax-Falls Church

Critically needed repairs to create safe and healthy homes.

Rebuilding Together Loudoun

Provides several low-income homeowners critical home repairs, accessibility modifications and energy-efficient upgrades each year.

Rental Accessibility Modification Program (RAMP)

RAMP provides grants and assistance to help with accessibility modifications.

Rental Unit Accessibility Modification Program

Virginia Housing Development Authority Rental Unit Accessibility Modification Program provides renters with disabilities up to $6,000 to make accessibility modifications to a rental unit leased in their name.

Home Repair for the Elderly

Provides minor home repairs and accessibility modifications for low and moderate income elderly or disabled homeowners.
